There have been important advances in addressing long standing safety issues on Island Park Drive. On July 16th 2010 Ottawa Council approved a motion to remove the channelized turn lanes on the north side of Carling Avenue at Island Park and to install a signalized pedestrian crossing at Iona Street and Island Park.
A Public Open House will be held to showcase the designs. Here is the City’s notice:
The City of Ottawa invites you to attend an open house to discuss the proposed roadway modification at the following locations:

This project consists of the removal of two channelized right turn lanes on the north side of Carling Avenue at Island Park Drive (northeast and northwest quadrants) including reconfiguration of the geometry, signalization works, drainage, concrete and asphalt work, traffic painting, and reinstatement. NCC will be involved in design, enhancements, and partial funding of this project.
ISLAND PARK DRIVE AT IONA STREET PEDESTRIAN CROSSING SIGNALS
